“Legend of Korra” Announces a Release Date

It’s been almost 2 years since The Legend of Korra, a sequel to Avatar: The Last Airbender, was announced. Now we finally have a release date, and it’s closer than you might think.

Nickelodeon finally made the announcement today that The Legend of Korra will premiere Saturday, April 14th at 11 am EST.

With the flurry of trailers, clips and concept art that have come out recently, you had to think that the release was coming soon. It’s been a long time coming and fans have been wondering when we’d finally get to see the show.

I’m definitely excited about the show. The original creative team of  Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko are back. The current plan for the show is for 26 episodes over 2 seasons: 12 episodes in Season 1 and 14 episodes in Season 2. It follows the new Avatar as she learns airbending while dealing with an anti-bending revolution led by a group called The Equalists.

The new trailer definitely shows there’s going to still be a “dark” side and intensity to the series. I think that ability to attract younger and older audiences was one of the things that made the first Avatar so succesful. What about you? Will you be watching The Legend of Korra?

So would I. Considering how late they announced the release of Season 1 it wouldn’t surprise me if we had to wait quite a while before an official date is released.

As much as I’ve been digging I haven’t been able to find release dates for DVD or for Season 2. I have seen some early season 2 storyboards floating around online but nothing solid yet. I’ll keep digging

We'd love to hear what you think!
